The Society was established and registered in 1899 under the name "The New Edinburgh Investment Building Society", and in 1946 the Society's name was changed to that of "The Century Building Society". We celebrated our centenary on 17th April 1999. Our Head office is located in central Edinburgh and here is transacted all the Society's business. We do not have a branch network, although we do have a significant number of uncontracted agents throughout the country. As a Building Society we are a mutual organisation owned by members of the Society for the benefit of current and future members. We advocate mutuality as being in the best interest for this Society and its members because, unlike banks, we are not under pressure to make substantial profits to satisfy equity shareholders. Any surplus, over and above that required to meet current and forecasted capital requirements, we will endeavour to return to our members by way of competitive rates and/or loyalty bonuses. We strive to achieve and maintain a friendly and personal service and given the fact that all enquiries are dealt with in a "head office" situation, such enquiries are dealt with promptly and efficiently with ease of access to senior management on specific matters. home | mortgages | investments | IFAs/Brokers page | contact us |
